Music Box: 30th Anniversary Edition gives Mariah Carey’s landmark album a major expansion. The celebration includes unreleased songs, remixes, restored videos, live recordings, merchandise and an upcoming documentary.
For many listeners, the original album introduced many international listeners to Carey’s voice. “Dreamlover” and “Hero” became her seventh and eighth U.S. No. 1 singles. Meanwhile, “Without You” achieved exceptional success across Europe and Asia.
Thirty years of Music Box
In fact, released in 1993, Music Box balances powerful ballads with upbeat tracks. “Anytime You Need a Friend,” “All I’ve Ever Wanted” and the title song showcase Carey’s vocals. In contrast, “I’ve Been Thinking About You” and “Now That I Know” increase the tempo.
As a result, the album has reportedly sold more than 35 million copies worldwide. The RIAA certified it Diamond for 10 million U.S. units, although that certification has not changed since 1997.
Its singles also achieved major sales. “Hero,” “Without You” and “Dreamlover” reportedly sold 15 million, 12 million and 6 million copies worldwide. In addition, Spotify streams for the album passed 712 million.
Classic videos restored in 4K
